Privacy Policy

Your typing statistics — WPM, accuracy, consistency, session history and weak-key data — are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. They stay on your device and are not transmitted to us unless you choose to submit a score to the leaderboard.

You can erase all of it at any time using the “Reset all stats” control on the dashboard, or by clearing site data in your browser settings.

If you submit a score to the public leaderboard, we store the display name and handle you enter along with that result (WPM, accuracy, consistency, mode and language). Choose a pseudonym if you prefer not to be identifiable — nothing requires your real name, and we never ask for an email address to play.

Want a leaderboard entry removed? Email info@free-type.com and we will delete it.

Essential storage works without consent: we use localStorage to hold your typing statistics, your settings and your consent choice itself. None of it leaves your device, and the site functions entirely on that alone.

Optional vendors load only if you accept. Those are Google Analytics 4, which sets cookies to measure aggregate usage, and Monetag, our advertising vendor, described below. Choose Reject and neither script is requested at all — not merely disabled. We also use Vercel Analytics, which is cookieless, collects no cross-site identifiers and is used solely for aggregate traffic counts.

Your choice is remembered and applies on later visits. You can change it whenever you like through the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, and clearing site data resets it.

Your typing performance — WPM, accuracy, consistency and per-key data — is never shared with advertising vendors.

Our advertising vendor is Monetag. We do not use Google AdSense.

On-page adverts and full-screen interstitials appear only where no typing test runs: the blog, the improve-your-typing-speed guide, this site's information pages, the leaderboard, the dashboard and profiles. They do not appear on the typing test, the daily challenge, code practice, weak-key drills or certificates. On those pages the advertising code is not loaded at all, so nothing can be placed over the typing area.

Monetag sets cookies and similar identifiers to select adverts and to limit how often you see the same one. It may use your IP address, approximate location derived from it, device and browser characteristics, and your prior visits to this and other sites in its network. We do not send it your typing performance, your email address or your leaderboard handle.

For what Monetag collects and how to opt out, see its privacy policy. You can also opt out of some vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org. Opting out does not remove adverts; it makes them less relevant.

Monetag also operates a browser push-notification unit. If you allow notifications when your browser asks, Monetag registers a service worker at /sw.js and can send you notifications containing advertising, including at times when you are not on this site.

This is entirely your choice and nothing is sent unless you grant permission. To revoke it, use your browser's site settings for this domain — the padlock or icon beside the address bar — and set notifications back to Block or Ask. Revoking permission stops the notifications regardless of your cookie choice here.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because we store almost nothing server-side, most of this is already in your hands: your stats live on your device and are yours to clear.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you can change or withdraw your advertising consent at any time through the consent banner. If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. To exercise any right, email info@free-type.com.

FreeType is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
