Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 1, 2026

This policy explains what FreeType collects when you use free-type.com, why, and the choices you have.FreeType is free to use and requires no account.

Data we store on your device

Your typing statistics — WPM, accuracy, consistency, session history and weak-key data — are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. They stay on your device and are not transmitted to us unless you choose to submit a score to the leaderboard.

You can erase all of it at any time using the “Reset all stats” control on the dashboard, or by clearing site data in your browser settings.

Data you choose to send us

If you submit a score to the public leaderboard, we store the display name and handle you enter along with that result (WPM, accuracy, consistency, mode and language). Choose a pseudonym if you prefer not to be identifiable — nothing requires your real name, and we never ask for an email address to play.

Want a leaderboard entry removed? Email info@free-type.com and we will delete it.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use localStorage to remember your settings and your cookie consent choice. We also use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate usage, such as which pages are visited and how the site performs. Analytics data is aggregated and is not used to build an advertising profile of you.

Third parties, including advertising partners, may set their own cookies as described below. You can accept or reject non-essential cookies via the banner shown on your first visit, and you can clear cookies at any time in your browser settings.

Advertising and Google AdSense

We display ads on content pages such as the blog, leaderboard, dashboard and profiles. We never place ads inside the typing test itself.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info/choices or optout.networkadvertising.org. Opting out does not remove ads; it makes them less relevant.

For more on how Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps, see Google's partner-sites policy.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because we store almost nothing server-side, most of this is already in your hands: your stats live on your device and are yours to clear.

If you are in the EEA or UK, you can change or withdraw your advertising consent at any time through the consent banner. If you are a California resident, we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. To exercise any right, email info@free-type.com.

Children

FreeType is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the site evolves; material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date above. Questions about privacy, or a request about your data? Email info@free-type.com.
